The young pilot, employed and sponsored by Metalcaucho, starts the Catalan Promotion Championship (CCP) with a third place in the XI Rally Ciutat de Valls
Metalcaucho continues to bet on its workers for its sports sponsorships. That is why it has formalized a sponsorship with the young talent Pol Castells, who combines his position as a technician in the Quality Department of Metalcaucho with his passion for racing.
The first race of this Catalan Promotion Championship (CCP) was scheduled to be held on March 13 in Bellpuig (Lleida), but was suspended for reasons of restrictions by the Covid. That is why the premiere took place this past May 1 at the Ciutat de Valls Rally (Tarragona), with 16 registered and a season that is exciting, highly contested and with a dizzying pace.
The rally, with 90 km timed and divided into 5 different double-pass sections, started with wet road and electrical problems in the car of Pol Castells, which they dragged throughout the day, forcing them to give their best. In the last stage of the morning they set the scratch (the best time), which lifted them to third position in the classification. During the afternoon and evening, they had to use themselves to the maximum, defending with good times, to stay on the podium.
Pol Castells was satisfied with the work done: “my assessment is very positive, we have achieved an important podium, are good points for the end of the year. We showed a good pace despite the electrical problem that weighed down a bit all day, setting the best time twice. In the end we were less than 7 seconds from the second drawer of the podium, but we are very happy for third place”.
In 2019 Metalcaucho prepared a Nissan Micra III K12 160 SR, with which they ran several mountain rallies, and even won the Track Day of the Circuit de Calafat. The pandemic in 2020 parked the motoring project, but now that the situation begins to allow it, it resurfaces with force again. On March 21st Pol Castells drove the car with the brand’s image in a mountain race in Tarragona, the Pujada a Alcover, finishing first in the Junior category. In this video you can see a summary of his race.
However, for this competition, ideal for young talents (under 23 years of age) who compete in rallies, Pol Castells, who will have José Luis Alonso as co-pilot, has driven his own vehicle, a Peugeot 206 XS Engine 1.6 (group N and class 1), in which they can also test the resistance of Metalcaucho spare parts in a real environment.
This 20-year-old began his sporting career in karting and already in 2019 made his debut in cars, achieving victory in the 6 Hours of Endurance in Calafat, two podiums in the IX Pujada Ullastrell and a fifteenth place overall in the 21 Rally Ciutat d’Igualada. In 2020 he disputed the Catalan Mountain Championship (La Pujada 2020) and won the Sub-Championship in Category 2. Pol Castells, despite his youth, already has some triumphs in his record, and surely he will soon be able to celebrate some more with the sponsorship of Metalcaucho.
